New Zealand Schools Team Selection

The Silva New Zealand Secondary School Championships on 23-24 July are the last races to be considered by the selectors for young orienteers wishing to be part of the 2005 New Zealand Schools team and tour to Australia in the September holidays, to compete in the Australian Schools Championships, 27,28 September.

Coaches – if you have students likely to be included in this team then please ask them now if they are available. This will ease the selection process if we know who is unavailable. Please make your students aware of the below.

Students – if you are selected as part of this team, you will be required to be in Tasmania from Saturday 24 th September, 2005 to Sunday 2 nd October, 2005 . The whole team will need to be there for the whole week. The NZOF provides uniforms and pays for entry fees and the presentation dinner. It is also seeking funding to assist travel but if this is unsuccessful you will be required to pay for your own flights, plus your own costs in Tasmania . Costs are calculated on a group travel basis and are administered by NZOF. You will also be given some guidelines about applying for local grants otherwise the cost rests with you (or more correctly your parents). The costs will be about $1000 plus airfares. Please take this into account when you consider your availability for selection.

Announcement – The selectors will make their announcement as soon as is practical after these races. It may be about 2 or 3 weeks but we hope sooner.
