NATIONAL ENTRIES TOP 400
Last time the Nationals were held in the deep south (1998), 285 attended. This year, entries as of today (20 March) stand at 447 with the largest event being the middle distance (418). Great to see so many of us travelling to sample the Central Otago region.
CLUB CHANGES
The new year always brings in changes to club committees and for 2010 new leaders abound with Pip Poole NW, Roger Woodroofe AK , Lyndon Haugh TP, Tony Van Dyk HV, and Trish Foote SD all taking over the reins at their respective clubs. A big thank you to those club presidents stepping down, Pete Swanson, Andrew Bell and Alan Foote.
Nelson have a new secretary (Michael Croxford) and with the Wellington secretary moving, address changes to be noted:

NZ JWOC TEAM
In case anyone hasn’t caught up with the news, our team for the 2010 Junior World Championships was selected last month and is:
Men: Gene Beveridge NW, Jourdan Harvey CM, Scott McDonald HB, Duncan Morrison HB, Matthew Ogden NW, Toby Scott AK (Jamie Brigham-Watson WN non-travelling reserve)
Women: Jaime Goodwin HB, Rachel Goodwin HB, Selena Metherell PP, Kate Morrison HB, Laura Robertson HV, Angela Simpson RO (Jula McMillan HV non-travelling reserve)
The managers are Carsten Jorgensen PP and Jenni Adams PP, while Ross Morrison HB has been appointed as the team’s coach.
SECONDARY SCHOOLS CENSUS
Orienteering continues to raise its numbers at secondary school level, accorsing to the 2009 census from the NZ Secondary Schools Sports Council. Students who represented their school at orienteering increased from 1039 to 1180 and our sport continues to be highlighted as one of a handful of sports who has increased participation by more than 30% over the last 5 years.
FORNE STARTS THE YEAR WELL
Chris Forne PP has dusted off the Norwegian winter cobwebs by travelling to Portugal for two World Ranking events, placing 37th and 16th in world-class and large fields (over 250 for the first event). His world ranking remains at 46.
