NZOF NEWS - APRIL 2010

THANKS DUNEDIN!

Easter has been and gone, and on the whole a successful long weekend of orienteering hosted by our southern friends. It was a huge undertaking for one of our medium-sized clubs to host all 4 days of our National Championships, and for that alone they should be applauded. To take orienteering into the Central Otago and onto virgin territory for us navigation junkies was enjoyed by many. So thanks Dunedin for an interesting and enjoyable weekend.

TEAMS, TEAMS, LOTS OF TEAMS

Congratulations to all those selected and best of luck for the competitions.

More to come! the Bushrangers are coming to our Queens Birthday weekend for their annual reality check on New Zealand soil; with a regional schools challenge in the air also it's shaping up to be a great weekend in June.

NEW SOUTH ISLAND REP ON NZOF COUNCIL

Also at Easter, Trish Faulkner PP stood down as the SI representative on Council and in her place comes Owen Cambridge DN. We thank Trish for her outstanding service and welcome Owen on board.

ATTACKING THE AKATARAWAS

And to wrap up an extremely busy few weeks we shouldn't forget it was our turn to host the National Rogaining Championships, ably hosted during 17-18 April by Orienteering Hutt Valley. An extremely tough weekend for those who were brave/stupid/(insert your own adjective here) to tackle the rugged, partly bush-clad terrain. Special mention must be made of one half of the winning team, Jamie Stewart WN, as he adds a national title in a navigational challenge lasting 24 hours whilst reigning Oceania champion over the sprint distance (winning time about 15 minutes). His partner was Greig Hamilton PP.
